Meanwhile Space worked with the London Borough of Hillingdon from summer 2012-2013 as part of the Ruislip Manor Town Centre improvements, supported by the Mayor of London. The aim was to reduce both the number and impact of empty shops on the high street by providing space for creative enterprise.
Meanwhile Space secured a 6-month meanwhile lease at a former milkshake shop and after creating the 'Meanwhile in the Manor' HQ with help from visual merchandising and marketing specialists International Visual we launched the Empty Shops Competition in autumn 2012. The competition welcomed great ideas for start-ups, community groups or anyone who was interested in trialling an idea in an empty space. After a 'Dragon's Den'-style interview panel start-up business The Shed was awarded 6 months in the space.
