Services
Meanwhile Space CIC is the first port of call for meanwhile activity for politicians, public/private sector, projects and the media.
Meanwhile Space is a community interest company with expertise in interim uses that give people the chance to convert empty space from blight to opportunity.
We provide consultancy, brokerage and guidance for landlords, people and Local Authorities interested in innovative interim uses for empty property and sites, so that everyone can share in cultural, environmental, economic, community and social benefit until these spaces are reclaimed for more conventional longer-term commercial use.

Advice
If you are a local authority, town centre manager or developer with a particular area to consider for meanwhile use, Meanwhile Space CIC has the expertise to help. Opening up a variety of meanwhile uses in a density of empty spaces or a focussed area can bridge the the natural pauses in the property process to test ideas, create a new destination, whilst maintaining community activities and a sense of place.
Meanwhile Space CIC has designed and facilitated affordable, cost-saving schemes in Craigavon (Northern Ireland), Luton, Hastings, London and Lewes. From feasibility, through to project management and delivery of projects, we have the knowledge, experience and people to deliver ambitious and small scale projects. Our testimonials and info page explains more about the projects we have been involved with.
Delivery
Meanwhile Space CIC collaborate to deliver incubation space to bring social profits to communities of interest and provide an opportunity for people and organsiations. We usually occupy one space in London that we make available to people wanting to trial new business or project ideas for a week or more at a time. Currently we are based in a former Subway shop in Exmouth Market, already 7 projects have used the space and there is a full programme until the end of October.
Recent spaces have included Meanwhile Whitechapel and Meanwhile Hoxton Street. Projects involved have gone on to open their own meanwhile spaces and launch successful businesses.
If you are a landlord with an empty space it can be a costly liability, and the longer it remains empty the more difficult it becomes to re-let. A meanwhile use will seek to reanimate the space and benefit you through the security of active occupation, reduced costs to keep property empty and increased prospects for future uses.
The Meanwhile Connect service will create the required infrastructure for an effective and trusting relationship between landlords and projects that is mutually beneficial on a meanwhile (rent free but covering rates, utilities and insurance) basis and will be available soon.
Resources
If you are interested in delivering a project in your own space, there are a number of resources we have developed through the Meanwhile Project, such as leases, guides, handbooks and business case arguments. These are free to download, and will provide you with a starting point to access empty spaces.
The Meanwhile Connect service to link properties with people will make spaces available on a meanwhile (rent free but covering rates, utilities and insurance) basis and will be available soon.
We also provide advice, guidance and networking to over 1000 owners, local authorities and potential occupiers through the Meanwhile Ning (the social networking site for meanwhile interests) and this is the best way to stay in touch. You can also find Meanwhile Space CIC on facebook and twitter.
