Programme of activity at Meanwhile Exmouth Market

Meanwhile Space CIC launched the Meanwhile Exmouth Market space to a full house on Tuesday 24th May and can now celebrate a full calender of projects using the space. The launch which included speeches from our partner Martin Bright, CEO of New Deal of the Mind and Christian Dillon, The Pallet Project, saw over 100 guests viewing the space.

Since then we have been inundated by projects wanting the use the space and are now fully booked until the 11th September 2011. The diverse mix of activity programmed into the space include:

28th May – 4th July: Harry Smiles

Turning a little bit of Vintage fun into part of your everyday style by selling vintage clothes, furniture & homewares. Harry Smiles will be providing a stylist & personal shopping appointments, workshops & events. Once a week we will look to conduct a workshop.

5th July – 19th July: London Street Photography Festival, Shoot Experience

The London Street Photography Festival is an exciting new event in London’s cultural calendar, which will champion the best contemporary street photographers, honor past masters and provide a space for discussion, debate and appreciation of the current relevance of this time-honored genre. The images from the project have not yet been exhibited anywhere.

27th July – 2nd August: Taken Away

Wobble & squint will present “Taken Away” an art exhibition that will take place in the disused Take Away Restaurant on Exmouth Market. The show will bring together Painters, Sculptors, Video Artists, Installation artists and Designer makers whose work will explore various facets of escapism.

3rd August – 31st August: The History Shop, NDotM

Details are to be confirmed

4th September – 11th September: Afro Fusion

The idea is to use fashion design as therapy for people with mental health issues. They will be designing a collection of clothes to be showcased at a fashion week. There will also be an exhibition.

The response to the call for proposals proves the need for space in London for individuals and groups to trial ideas and experiment with space. Not only are we contacted daily by people looking for space in London but across the UK. The demand for space on this short term basis is getting greater and needs to be recognised by more landlords and Local Authorities as a potential market for their problem empty spaces.
