St Anne's Lewes
St Anne’s Open Day, Rotten Row: Saturday 13th August 2011, 10.00 – 16.00
On Saturday 13th August Meanwhile Space CIC will be coordinating the first open day at St Anne’s in Lewes.
St Anne’s is an old school on the outskirts of Lewes, East Sussex, which closed in 2005. Although there are questions over the condition of the buildings the site has expansive grounds including protected trees and playing fields.
Sat on the edge of the National Park and well connected to the town centre it is a well loved area by the local community.
St Anne’s is owned by the County Council who have entered into consultation with the community on interim uses for the site. Ideas are being collated and Meanwhile Space hopes to facilitate the coordination of new uses for a minimum of 3 years..
The site will be made open to the public on Saturday 13th August as an opportunity for Lewes residents to enjoy the site and contribute ideas to what should happen next. Meanwhile Space CIC has been asked by East Sussex County Council to facilitate the day but we need help from local people and organisations to make the day really successful.
Get involved!
We need to make sure that people coming onto the site are well informed, safe and happy. There are three different ways that you can help. Please see attached a form asking for help with three potential roles.
- We need Facilitators! – Can you help show people round the site? Can you share vital information about the site and the consultation taking place?
- We need Activity! – Do you have an idea for activity to help keep people entertained on the Open Day and inspire them to think creatively about future use?
- We want Information! – Are you a local charity, organisation, business? Do you want the opportunity to get involved with this project early and showcase yourselves to Lewes residents?
If the answer is YES to any of the above please contact Jessica Courtney Bennett by Friday 5th August and ask for a volunteer form and details of the roles.
Spread the word!
To really get involved come and visit the site on the 13th August and have a look around. There is going to be activity to get involved with and the views alone across the Downs is enough to inspire ideas for the site. Please feel free to encourage your friends, family and neighbors to come on the day. Posters are available from Lewes Town Hall and you can download a copy here.
If you have any questions about any of the roles or have another suggestions as to how you might get involved please contact Jessica at jcb@meanwhilespace.com or call 07876 793418.
