Meanwhile Exmouth Market Launch
Date: 24th May 2011
Location: 18 Exmouth Market, London, EC1R 4QE
Meanwhile Space, an innovative social enterprise which uses empty spaces in socially useful ways, is launching a pop-up shop on Exmouth Market with the support of New Deal of the Mind (NDotM), a groundbreaking charity set up to create access to jobs, and support self-employment in the arts.
The launch of the Exmouth market shop will take place on Tuesday 24th May at 5pm with a host of local businesses, community representatives and creative entrepreneurs interested in using an otherwise empty space.
Meanwhile Space and NDotM will transform a shop that has been empty for two years into a creative hub offering space and support to trial social enterprises, business start ups and community-focused projects. Meanwhile Space will manage a programme of activity until a long-term tenant is found. Already booked into the space are a carpentry business, a vintage fashion label, a history shop and a photography festival.
Following on from the success of the pop-up think tank Popse (popse.wordpress.com), the space will act as a showcase for new NDotM-sponsored businesses such as: The Unsigned Band Review (unsignedbandreview.com) and TIME/IMAGE (timeimage.org.uk)
With a minimum three-month lease secured, the key aim of the pop up is to animate an empty space, creating opportunities for self employment which will lead to greater footfall, and ideally a permanent tenant for the landlord.
With the Government’s recent appointment of Mary Portas to review the future of the high street, now has never been a better time to celebrate a project bringing diversity to a London high street.
