Within a few days, the empty shop was transformed into a drop in advice centre for people to come and find out more about meanwhile.

Thanks to Shoreditch Trust, the Meanwhile Space team made a unit on Hoxton Street their home from April to June 2010. Within a few days, the empty shop was transformed into a drop in advice centre for people to come and find out more about the tools we’ve developed through the Meanwhile Project (www.meanwhile.org.uk) to support uses that benefit the community in vacant spaces and places across the country.
With the help of Matt Weston from Slack Space Brighton, a series of workshops looked to build local capacity to activate spaces, and identified potential spaces and processes for doing so. Visit the Hoxton group on the meanwhile ning, to chat to the legacy group who are taking the idenitified tasks forward and have a look at Emily’s suggestions for spaces with the most potential.
The centre was also a place where other projects could pilot ideas and projects, with support from Meanwhile Space, and we saw some fantastic uses from bunting factories, to pop-up hair salons.
